Best Mattress for Seniors

Finding a mattress is hard enough, but finding one for a senior is much more difficult. The senior age (65+) is much more prone to physical health issues that occur from sleeping on the wrong mattress. These physical issues can cause back aches, neck aches, body aches, sleep apnea, breathing issues, etc. And so many of these issues can be prevented and help these issues with the right mattress. So let’s discuss a three step plan to buying your next mattress.

  1. Throw out your old mattress

People often forget that after a certain amount of years, you need to get a new mattress. People hold on to their mattress for way too long or buy old used mattresses. This can be an issue, because the mattress will not be able to help you or give you a good night’s rest. Going back to the beginning paragraph, you can get serious health issues from sleeping on the wrong mattress.

If you are sleeping on a mattress that sinks in the middle, you are more likely to wake up with an achy back or neck. And because you are a senior, it could take a chiropractor or doctors visit to reverse these effects. Also, if you are sleeping on this mattress for a long period of time, it will give you a long time physical issue. Along with this, it is so important to get a good night’s sleep, it is how we heal and recharge as humans. Finding the right mattress is so important for this. So the first step is to throw away your old mattress.

  1. Do your research

Finding the right mattress for you can be a long process. It will be super helpful to go online and check out different mattress brands or go in store and try out different mattresses’. This way, you are covering all your options before starting to buy.

If you have certain health issues we have discussed, you are going to need a different kind of mattress. There are different types of mattresses from firm, soft, adjustable, and many others.

Firm

A hard mattress is very good for the back pain or physical issues you have. It will support your back so there is no way your back can shift or sit in the wrong position all night. A hard mattress will also help with oxygen flow so that you can get a great, nice rest.

This could be something that you could try out in a mattress store. That way you could get a firm mattress without it being uncomfortable.

Soft

A soft mattress sounds great, but it does not always help. If the mattress is too soft then it can often make you sink into it causing those health issues. It might not be the right choice for a senior person because of the risk.

Adjustable

Depending on your age and health issue, an adjustable mattress could be perfect for you. This adjustable feature can make it easy for you to get out of bed or sit up in bed. Making a task that has become much harder, be easy again. Check out your mattress store to try it out.

Finding your perfect mattress can be difficult so always do you research.

  1. Where to buy

Where to buy a mattress is also a personal choice. Oftentimes you want to find a mattress from a reliable company that has a good warranty. If you are a senior it might be beneficial to shop in a store, that way you can get face to face help and actually try out the mattress. Where online you are getting the mattress delivered to your door, and oftentimes you don’t know if you’ll actually like it.

For seniors, the right choice might be to go to the store if you want to try them out. But if you know what you want and don’t want to leave the house, by right from your home.
